Vision, Aims and Values
School Vision
‘Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven’
Matthew 5:16
Aims of Bierton C.E Combined School
We aim to develop in all children not only their academic potential but also an understanding of good citizenship, based on principles of truth, justice, courage, respect and tolerance. We want to create a sense of self-esteem, self-confidence and self-worth in every pupil, as well as help each pupil to realise their own potential.
In order to achieve this we seek to help pupils develop lively and enquiring minds with an ability to apply themselves to tasks and the skill to interpret the world around them, whilst helping them acquire the knowledge and skills demanded by society in the adult world.
We recognise the importance of home, school and the local community working in partnership and by having a relationship between the staff and pupils which reinforces expected attitudes and behaviour in a friendly and caring way, enhancing the quality of school life for all. We promote understanding and tolerance of others and an awareness of the wider world.
These aims are supported by a ‘broad and balanced’ curriculum which is carefully structured to build on prior successes.
- To create a safe, caring Christian environment in which all are given the opportunity to develop spiritually, intellectually, aesthetically and physically.
- To promote the highest standards in all aspects of the curriculum so that children achieve their full potential.
- To foster and develop effective learners.
- To provide a broad and balanced curriculum consistent with the N.C. which enables children to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes relevant to their future lives.
- To help children develop self-confidence, self-reliance and self-discipline so that they can achieve personal fulfilment.
- To value each other irrespective of race, creed, culture, gender or age.
- To encourage community involvement so that children recognise the need to be of service to others.

Christian Values
Bierton provides a quality education within a caring Christian environment. We aim to create a happy, safe environment where children and adults can respect and value each other. We encourage our children to take pride in belonging to our school and all that it offers.
Our Christian Vision is that 'At Bierton CE Combined School, we don't hide our light. We aim high, achieve success, find our sparkle and shine.'
"Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." Matthew 5:15 -17.
By providing excellent learning opportunities, our aim is for each and every child to reach their full potential both academically and personally. All children at Bierton are encouraged and guided to become rounded individuals with an understanding of good citizenship, based on principles of truth, justice, courage, respect and tolerance. We want to create a sense of self-esteem, self-confidence and self-worth in every pupil, as well as help each pupil to realise their own potential. In order to achieve this, we utilise children’s natural curiosity and sense of wonder and seek to help pupils develop lively and enquiring minds with a growth mindset and ability to apply themselves to tasks and the skill to interpret the world around them, whilst helping them acquire the knowledge and skills demanded by society in the adult world.
We recognise the importance of home, school, church and the local community working in partnership for the best outcome for our children. All staff endeavour to foster relationships with pupils which reinforce expected attitudes and behaviour in a friendly and caring way, enhancing the quality of school life for all. Promoting an understanding and tolerance of others and an awareness of the wider world ensures that children leave Bierton with a compassionate and open mindset. These aims are supported by a ‘broad and balanced’ curriculum which is carefully structured to build on prior successes.
Bierton CE Combined School has five Christian Values which underpin all that we do and allow us to demonstrate our vision clearly. These values are: Love, Cooperation, Respect, Responsibility and Honesty.
Promoting British Values at Bierton CE Combined School
The D f E has recently reinforced the need "to create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs."
The government set out its definition of British values in the 2011 Prevent Strategy, and these values have been reiterated by the Prime Minister this year. At Bierton CE Combined these values are reinforced regularly and in the following ways:
- Democracy:
Democracy is rife within the school. Pupils have the opportunity to have their voices heard through our School Council and Pupil questionnaires. The elections of House Captains and School Council Representatives are based solely on pupil votes. Our school behaviour policy involves rewards which the pupils vote on as a class group. - The Rule of Law:
The importance of Laws, whether they be those that govern the class, the school, or the country, are consistently reinforced throughout regular school days, as well as when dealing with behaviour and through school assemblies. Pupils are taught the value and reasons behind laws, that they govern and protect us, the responsibilities that this involves and the consequences when laws are broken. Visits from authorities such as the Police; Fire Service etc. are regular parts of our calendar and help reinforce this message. - Individual Liberty:
Within school, pupils are actively encouraged to make choices, knowing that they are in a safe and supportive environment. As a school we educate and provide boundaries for young pupils to make choices safely, through of provision of a safe environment and empowering education. Pupils are encouraged to know, understand and exercise their rights and personal freedoms and advise how to exercise these safely, for example through our E-Safety and PSHE lessons. Whether it be through choice of challenge, of how they record, of participation in our numerous extra-curricular clubs and opportunities, pupils are given the freedom to make choices. - Mutual Respect:
Part of our school ethos and behaviour policy has revolved around Core Values such as ‘Respect and Responsibility’ – the Spirit of Bierton CE Combined and pupils have been part of discussions and assemblies related to what this means and how it is shown. Posters around the school promote respect for others and this is reiterated through our classroom and learning rules, as well as our behaviour policy. - Tolerance of those of Different Faiths and Beliefs:
This is achieved through enhancing pupils understanding of their place in a culturally diverse society and by giving them opportunities to experience such diversity. Assemblies and discussions involving prejudices and prejudice-based bullying have been followed and supported by learning in RE and PSHE. Members of different faiths or religions are encouraged to share their knowledge to enhance learning within classes and the school. Pupil Discussions in particular show that this has been successful.
